It’s said that the clock is always ticking, but there’s a chance that it isn’t. The theory of “presentism” states that the current moment is the only thing that’s real, while “eternalism” is the belief that all existence in time is equally real. Find out if the future is really out there and predictable—just don’t tell us who wins the big game next year.

This video is episode two from the series “Mysteries of Modern Physics: Time”, Presented by Sean Carroll

Time is not real. Time describes many things are not related to each other but they're all called time. The real thing is speed. I think time sometimes describes speed … other times describe other things.

I love this video and was with it all the way until the very last part because I've never been able to understand why a clock would tick at a different rate near a black hole or in a spaceship nearing the speed of light. If anybody can explain to me why this mechanical object that runs on gears or one that utilizes quartz crystals or any other method would change at that time I would truly appreciate it! Even though I might not understand it if you did because I've tried to understand it before! 🥺

Ok I am a simple man. But tell me where I am wrong. The way I understand time is that time is the state of observable change. If nothing changes and or if there is nothing to observe it, time doesn’t exist. As far as the past and future are concerned, our actions in the present can influence what happens in the future, but not so of events that took place in the past.

Everything, perceived or done, is completely dependent on change, right? Right! To perceive change reliably, something immovable is just as necessary. This must mean that even the most basic understanding of anything – literally anything – in the universe is only possible, if “change“ AND “the unchangeable“ are both well understood.

The world of triolaris from cixin Liu novels is a world where there is unpredictable cycles, a bit of a plot hole that the trisolarans have advanced tech when in reality their development as a civilisation would have been stunted at telling the time 🤣

Here's a paradox about time. An object at rest accelerates at 9.8 m/sec². At time=0 its velocity is zero. At that instant is it moving? If not then at what infinitesimal time later is it moving? If it wasn't moving at time=0 then how did it get to that infinitesimal moment later when it is moving? It is basically Zeno's arrow paradox.

If the wave/particle collapse theory is correct than we can assume that time didnt exist before it was measured? If this is true could it mean that what we know as the universe could have been in wave form untill the possibility of time being measured happened within the wave form collapsing the whole universe into particle form where a physical record of everything that happened within the ocean of possibilities materialized instantly…the layers of the earth would be like snap shots in time and looking at these snap shots you should find all the possibilities that played out whilst the universe was in wave form…possibly meaning the universe has only been physical for a short amount of time and what we see would still be happening in wave form if time hadnt been measured by an intelligent being…maybe we collapsed the universe

'Time' is an illusion that exists in/as 'thought'!
'Thought' is Ego (Thought is Duality, mortality, death)!
Thus we 'identify' with the presentations of the Ego (autonomous self) and buy into 'life' and 'death'. Mortality!
'Time' is not inherent in Reality other than that.
    Reality is Holistic, not linear;
"The Laws of Nature are not rules controlling the metamorphosis of what is, into what will be (ie; Karma). They are descriptions of patterns that exist, all at once… " – Genius; the Life and Science of Richard Feynman
All 'eternity' at once; Here! Now!!
    Holistic.
Eternal doesn't mean all the moments strung together like a string of popcorn, 'time' (linear or otherwise), it means NO 'time'! No time to exist!
    Bye! 😉

He says "we can move through space" as if there were no time involved in such an action. He speaks about "moving through time" as if movement wasn't a spatial event.

    We Are Made of Time

Time is not something we see or touch, yet it is the essence of all that we are. We are made of time, flowing through its eternal and immovable framework. Time is a black canvas—neutral, intangible, and endless—where energy, matter, and motion create the rhythms and patterns of existence.

Like a canvas untouched by the paint it holds, time remains unchanging as it contains and reflects all creation. Light does not illuminate time; it only interacts with matter to produce what we perceive. Without matter to reflect or absorb it, the canvas of time stays dark, silent, and neutral, yet it is the foundation of all things.

Time is not just the container; it is the seed of eternity, where energy and matter are continuously becoming. It holds the potential for everything we experience, yet it is never affected by it. To exist is to be intertwined with time, for we are the art painted on the infinite, timeless canvas.

Consciousness is the 4th dimension- "time" is a mere artifact of the 'speed of thought/inspiration'.
    maybe.
