Scientists made attempts to combine and unify all fundamental forces . The first attempt was Electroweak theory which combined Electromagnetic and weak nuclear force as electroweak force, following the success of electroweak theory scientists attempted to combine it with strong nuclear force also known as Strong color force or QCD. The merging of electroweak force with strong color force is called as Grand unification theory or GUT. GUT considers leptons and quarks to be specific states of a single particle called a leptoquark and it is this identity that leads to the same number of flavors for quarks and leptons. Also because leptons and quarks are states of the same particle,GUT predicts that quarks and leptons should be able to change into each other if given sufficient time. The search for unification has also led to another beautiful symmetry principle , called Supersymmetry or SUSY. SUSY suggests that every elementry particle has a super partner called a sparticle. Although no sparticle has yet been observed . It is believed that supersymmetry is a broken symgmetry and that the masses of superpartners are too large to be produced in current accelerators. However, Experiments have confirmed that at high energies electromagnetic interaction and weak interaction unify into a single electroweak force. GUT predicts that even at more higher energy strong force and electroweak force will unify into one electronuclear force.
