03/10/2025 - 12:29 AM1:08 Camus argued strongly against suicide though so I doubt he would agree that it’s “just the same”, although I might be misinterpreting him.

03/10/2025 - 12:29 AMthe producer's definition of Absurdism is not standard as they substitute Nihilism for the Absurdism, I don't think that is not a mistake that BBC would make.

03/10/2025 - 12:29 AMSo, absurdism is the only philosophy that actually results in the creation of a useful product (absurdist entertainment). How…absurd!

03/10/2025 - 12:29 AMi read an awesome comment about absurdism:
"Life is a huge box of lego. There are no instructions. Dudes assuming it all assembles into a 100 foot Jesus, or a utopian playhouse may be right, but it's a one in a gajillion shot.
So build a Millenium Falcon, then break that shit to pieces and build a submarine, then a turbogoat and a whistle-factory, then a tapdancing-lapdancing-fire-breathing-toucan. Accepting the pointlessness of the project is the way forward."

@Kajenx
03/10/2025 - 12:29 AMWhoever wrote this video didn't do their research. "Life has no meaning," is called Nihilism, not Absurdism. Absurdism is a philosophy that accepts humanity can't find a logical basis for meaning, even though finding things meaningful is an inevitable part of human life. So absurdists say to accept the absurdity of the situation and simply live a meaningful life WITHOUT justifying it logically. The word "absurd" means "something that is illogical or irrational." So Absurdists decide to be absurd: they live a meaningful life even though they have no way to describe that meaning with logic. Personally, I don't see any difference between Absurdism and Existentialism. In both cases they embrace meaning and purpose for human life, even in the absence of rationality and logic. Nihilism is fundamentally different because it rejects meaning altogether as an illogical construct and a fabrication from human emotions.
@billgates7074
03/10/2025 - 12:29 AMno no no no, finding your own meaning is existentialism. absurdism is not finding a meaning but existing despite not having one because what the heck why not
@paigeherrin29
03/10/2025 - 12:29 AMWoah, finally! How did I not know about this? I’ve been told I’m an existentialist, I’ve been told I’m a nihilist. I just kinda thought I was atheist. Turns out, it’s absurdism. Who knew? I feel like this information is literally what I’ve been trying to explain when I’m asked about being atheism. Like could be verbatim. I.did.not.know.this.was.a.thing. I’m gonna check out Camus.
@gwilwilliams5831
03/10/2025 - 12:29 AMI’ve just discovered that I’m an absurdist. It’s only taken me 70 years to find my label. This is absurd.
Incidentally I’d just like to say that two of my favourite films are Monty Python’s Life of Brian and Stanley Kubrick’s Dr Strangelove.
