This video explains the basic relationship between research paradigm, ontology, and epistemology in academic research settings. A research paradigm explains what you believe reality is and how you think knowledge can be understood. Ontology refers to the nature of reality. Epistemology is concerned with the nature of knowledge and how we come to know something.

02/22/2025 - 2:27 PMI have to agree with everyone here. A lot of the texts spray so many words at you that only confuse you on what should be a simple topic. You made that manifest by giving a concise and logical explanation. Subscribed!

02/22/2025 - 2:27 PMOntology deals with reality but epistemology deals with abstractions based upon ontological realities

02/22/2025 - 2:27 PMOMG Thank you. Doctoral student here -this is key to our work yet this is so inadequately taught and it is spoken of as in assumption in academic training.

02/22/2025 - 2:27 PMResearch Paradigm = (Ontology + Epistemology + Methodology)
Ontology: The nature of the phenomena being studied and their relationships.
Epistemology: How knowledge about the phenomena is acquired, validated, and communicated.
Methodology: The strategies, methods, and procedures used to collect, analyze, and interpret data about the phenomena.
Together, these components form a research paradigm that guides researchers in their work, shaping their approach to understanding and investigating a particular topic.

02/22/2025 - 2:27 PMThe 3 epistemologies: I am not sure they contradict each other. I do not understand why they are three different things? In my opinion they should not be one without the other. Could someone advise/ discuss please?
