Journalists at the Guardian and the observer are striking for a a second 48-hour period in protest to the proposed sale of the Observer newspaper to Tortoise Media.

Carole Cadwalladr tells James O’Brien that the Observer have proposed this sale in complete secrecy. She said that ‘no current or former journalists or editors of the observer or the guardian has any clue, we are completely in the dark’.

The industrial action follows a similar two-day strike last week, which was the first at the Guardian in more than 50 years.

National Union of Journalists (NUJ) members passed a motion in November stating that selling the Sunday newspaper to Tortoise would be a “betrayal” of the Scott Trust’s commitment to the Observer. The trust is the ultimate owner of Guardian Media Group.

Why did The Guardian sell it? Why didn't the The Guardian put it on the open market to guarantee getting the best sale price?

The Guardian needs support from people who value free and unbiased journalism. Perhaps they should break away and start a new paper.

I guess Corbyn killed the Guardian. Their response to a centre left, pretty moderate political leader exposed the paper. Noone could credibly claim it to be left leaning anymore.

Classic Guardianista outrage – its not their newspaper and they have zero 'right' to any say in the matter. If they want to buy it, then go ahead and make a better offer.

And Dear James – they dont have to answer squat from you or anyone else except the regulators involved.

Its really funny when the left-wing Guardian troll central can no longer get subsidised by others.

Of course other news outlets wouldn't want to touch this, considering they too went through the same thing, just more Tories controlling the media, real journalism is truly dead in the UK.

100 celebrities and James O'Brien signing a petition……..the uselessness of celebrity endorsements was well illustrated with Harris and her presidential campaign.People generally don't care what celebrities think on matters like that.
