5 years later and the last company that was doing anything with the idea has closed down operations a few months ago. You see, it turns out that putting trains in a vacuum is a really, really stupid idea and even with modern tech is it absurdly difficult to do. You'd think that a superbrain like Musk would have figured this out, but nah.
What's more, Musk only suggested hyperloop because he did not want the US to start their high-speed-rail project because that would be competition for his Tesla cars. He knew that there would be thousands of very very stupid people with too much money who'd jump on the opportunity to make Musk rich and he was right; hundreds of millions were pumped into the most absurd companies and research projects and the US did put their rail project on hold.
It's important to note that Musk, who repeated over and over how simple it would be to do, never even started a single project to actualy do anything. He just planted the seed and watched his moronic fanbase destroy themselves over it.
