Designer babies, the end of diseases, genetically modified humans that never age. Outrageous things that used to be science fiction are suddenly becoming reality. The only thing we know for sure is that things will change irreversibly.

My sibling has a genetic disease wherein a single part of their DNA is switched. They’ve been physically impaired their entire life. There’s a high chance that I am a carrier of this disease and can pass it on to my own children. I know genetic modification sounds something out of a dystopian novel but I’m hopeful that perhaps we could someday eradicate such diseases for good. 🤞

the thing is is that although I want disease immunity and stuff I actively don't want to live for more than 100 years… we die for a reason, it wouldn't be nice living for so long

Damn this is interesting. So basically, We must first emphasize World Peace, Human Rights, Climate Consciousness and Space Travel, cuz it could all go wring if the proper groundwork is not laid out first.

Kind of sounds a lot like the old argument for the nuclear arms race… “If we don’t build it, someone else will. Better it’s us.”

I seem to remember a group of people, in history, that attempted to creat "designer babies", through selective breeding. hmm.

Wild! Defeating diseases, children born without illness, increasing life expectancy… all sound like blessings. Potential super soldiers aside. Keeping research responsible, & in the open, rather than hidden, seems like the practical approach
