Dualism is a theory within Philosophy of Mind that argues that the mind and body are two distinct entities. One is physical and spatially located, the other is immaterial. Mind and Body are distinct and are therefore separate. This video gives a quick overview of the Dualist position within Philosophy of Mind.

It took me a second to recognize that Jew list was just the way that they pronounced dualist. Fascinating how accents work.

This is one small sub-set of what dualism is based on Philosophy, not what I am looking for; please correct title so as not to mislead others. It's more than Descartes and a patriarchal view of the world.

You’re missing a concept about physicalism. The thoughts do have mass and take weight. Through neurons etc. (I am no physicalist btw)

    Dualism in human condition
Intuition (Ni & Ne) vs sensing (Se & Si)
    Deep vs shallow
    Idealism vs materialism
    Vision vs realism
    6 senses vs 5 sense
I’m training myself Se & Si
    Torturing 😢 though

Or they're both made out of the same thing matter and there's no dualism required for some mystic mind thing period mind is just A result of material things producing an energetic output which is a indivisible mind period show me something that has a mind that also doesn't have a energy output or metabolism period I don't think you could show me that. Also the problem of interaction if the mind is immaterial and the body is material how do they interact. They seem to say the senses But doesn't this necessitate the senses are both material and immaterial or that there are a third entity onto themselves that connects the 2. I don't get the argument of how they're connected. I only see its utility and explaining certain things about the mind that seem to be true with introspection alone

You are not understanding dualism in the right way. Dualism is not just the separation of Body and mind. Dualism is actually the separation of everything. Dualism means I'm separate from you and you are separate from me and we both have our own existence. It's not about physical or non physical. Even if we consider two physical things they are considered to be dual because they have separate existence. It seems that you are thinking that Dualism is because of matter and non matter. That's not ture. If we only consider matter then also there is Dualism because each and every matter has its own existence. Iron has its own existence, oxygen has its own existence, all the elements of periodic table have there own existence hence we can say we are in the realm of Dualism. Each and every element in the periodic table behaves differently this is what we call Dualism. Each one has its own experience and hence they behave differently. Similarly we humans have our own existence and micro organisms have their own existence and we have our own specific behaviors. This is dualism

It's because the body has a mind as well. More so like an animal mind. We call this quite literally the flesh mind or animalistic mind. This mind, and the spiritual/divine mind otherwise known as a soul are at war with one another and the goal of life is to fully submit to the spiritual. And become one with the central consciousness which is God

Unfortunately, our thoughts are not entirely private 😔

We know that certain sections of the brain light up when we’re thinking of certain things, and we can measure that.

Obviously we don’t have a robust understanding of this process since that would basically be mind reading. But yeah we just … don’t have that

This is a very partial view of dualism; dualism is expressed in any pair of extremes, Mind and Body; Divine and Material; Yin and Yang; Static and Dynamic; Good and Evil; True and False; Life and Death. Any time someone compares two extremes, they are invoking a dualism. I would like to add that any dualist worth their salt will confess that a dualism is never absolute, that is that the distinction between the two extremes is artificial and used solely to help better our understanding of the world; the video makes the incredibly erroneous claim that dualism propositions that the mind is completely separate from the body, as any credible dualist will admit that the mind is also material and that matter also to a certain extent mindful (taking the former idea to the extreme gives you materialism ("all is material") taking this latter idea to the extreme gives you panpsychism ("all is mind")). The fact that no dualism is absolute and that extremes are always meddled is reflected in the YinYang symbol and in the entire Taoist philosophy, as a bit of the Yin is present in the Yang and a bit of the Yang is present in the Yin.

'one' (the maker of the video) does not get the duality at all -.-
yes, there is a 'mental' and a 'physical' but they both produce "thoughts".
the physical 'thoughts' go before the mental.
that is the place addiction lives, the physical wants it even though the mental knows its wrong.
the mental observes and tries to improve.
but the physical already made most of the choses.
these improvements are guided in general by what is called a 'culture'.

in this culture the common humen consciousness resides…. as sort of a god…. a made up one. but still a god :O
