Controlling robotic swarms! Come with me to the Robotics, Aerospace, and Information Networks lab at the University of Washington to learn the basics of swarm robotics. Find out how simple distributed algorithms can generate coordination within multi-robot systems.

Thanks to Dr. Airlie Chapman, Eric Schoof, Dr. Mehran Mesbahi, and the team at the RAIN lab for sharing their research with me and allowing me to share it with you.
Mark takes a look at a very interesting project called Swarm Robotics, and how this concept could be applied in the future to create different styles and types of music. The Natural Robotics Lab was founded in 2010. It is led by Dr. Roderich Gross from the Department of Automatic…
For more, read the full UNIDIR report at https://www.unidir.org/swarm As the international community continues discussions on lethal autonomous weapons systems (LAWS) in 2020 and 2021 and will focus on the further development and operationalization of the guiding principles, the role of human decision-making will undoubtedly remain one of the core…
Swarm Robotics: Can Robots Outsmart Nature's Most Coordination Secrets? As the world becomes more complex, dependent on technology, and interconnected, the concept of swarm intelligence has emerged as a vital area of research. Swarm robotics, a subfield of swarm intelligence, explores the potential of decentralized, self-organized, and adaptive systems, where…
Many of these problems were solved earlier than you know. In the early 1990's I did pioneering work in this area – before the term "swarm robotics" even existed. There was a Japanese roboticist who may have built a "swarm" before I did, as he published a book about it in 1992. There was doubtless someone thinking about this even earlier, as the concept of "grey goo" goes back to the 1960's.
I am interested in the In-Situ utilization of orbital debris. Orbital drone swarms seam to have potential to solve many of the challenges of capture of smaller Orbital debris particles (10cm<) for return to an orbital space station for processing. If the sensory data from each unit is collated to a universal map the orbital parameters for objects that have up to this time been undetectable to ground based radar could be determined & capture solutions could be assigned to units with the best state vectors. how might such devices be programed for orbital sweeping for small orbital debris?
This is a great video to start with. Thanks for sharing. SWARM robotics is what I've always want to delve into since my Bachelors. Precisely, I was looking to solve the environmental disaster with field fire outbreak in the summer during heat waves. I can see from your video that there are lots of ideas in that area, and would love to see how I can contribute to that body of knowledge for my Masters in Robotics and Automation Engineering. Thanks once again.
Interesting, just found this video again. We never heard from anyone related to our message. We are now working on c controlling the Robomaster TT with IR controllers and the mind+ program.
Great video! We tried to do swarm formations for a year with the DJI Tello EDU ( Micro-drones ) . We never succeeded. problems with reserving IP's on routers. We have now succeeded easily with up to 10 Makerfire LiteBee Wing FM micro-drones. We use Aruco markers for takeoff, landing, and flight execution sites. These drones re made of LEGO block styles. therefore we can easily 3D print top and bottom load attachments and parts. They also offer various modules such as electromagnetic release attachments, We have several video's on MECATX Youtube channel. Wea re working on SAR, and tele-medicine uses of drones. You can contact me at dfkott@aol.com. We would like to her from those interested in micro-drone formation flying!
There is also the Vicsek model for active matter that is very similar to the way the robots aligned themselves in the example. I will build a robotic swarm in the near future I got a grant and I am interested in this type of research.
Thanks, Brian ! that was a really interesting and informative video. But can you give me any source for consensus algorithm for quadcopters with implementation.
First area of application will be military or police who wants to eliminate enemies or supress certain behaviour in humans. Itś time to start figuring out countermeasures to robotic forces or humanity will be supressed and slaughtered by government and dictating forces. They have the money and technology, we dont.

03/16/2025 - 6:09 PMYou could use artificial evolution to create the rules for individuals in the swarm, or even try PPO

03/16/2025 - 6:09 PMSeems more complicated than it was for me thirty years ago…in 1993, I created what I believe to be the world's first robot "swarm".
