When speaking about religion, attention is often brought to the five major world religions: Christianity, Islam, Judaism, Hinduism and Buddhism. These traditions dominate public religious life and for that reason, they grab a lot of attention in the world. During the early 17th century, which is commonly known as the Age of Enlightenment, a philosophical movement developed where intellectuals, philosophers and theologians saw moral and social problems with organised religions. Biblical stories were in contradiction with new scientific discoveries and as a result, these thinkers began to use ‘reason’ to attempt to understand knowledge of the divine and absolute truth. It can be understood as the ‘religion of nature’, meaning that one could understand God through reason, rationality and an objective inquiry into natural phenomena. This movement was called Deism and in this video, we will be looking to understand this philosophy, including its historical origins, its rationality and also its criticisms in the 21st century. I hope you enjoy this video and without further adieu, You’re watching All Things Humanities.

Hume, David (1779). The Natural History of Religion. “The primary religion of mankind arises chiefly from an anxious fear of future events; and what ideas will naturally be entertained of invisible, unknown powers, while men lie under dismal apprehensions of any kind, may easily be conceived. Every image of vengeance, severity, cruelty, and malice must occur, and must augment the ghastliness and horror which oppresses the amazed religionist. .. And no idea of perverse wickedness can be framed, which those terrified devotees do not readily, without scruple, apply to their deity.” (Section XIII)

02/13/2025 - 7:51 PMSo,,,IMHO, deism is humanism, worship of man & his intelligence, that acknowledges or "gives a nod to" a higher power when he can't figure a thing out.
Religion is man made and is comprised of a cultural set of moral rules of required do's & dont's deemed acceptable by a specified deity worshiped as god.
Faith (in God) is a love relationship and acknowledges Him as Lord who is worthy to be followed.

02/13/2025 - 7:51 PMGod is a convergent force. Since all the religions are wrong about God, I don't believe in religions.

02/13/2025 - 7:51 PMDeism has taken a lot from 800 AD Mutazilites who were also influenced by Aristotle Greek philosopher. Mutazila as they were called. Means who separated from the mainstream. Motazila An earlier Islamic group who believed in one God and his prophets but they believed God created man with his own spirit but also gave him a choice. In that sense man is answerable to his wrong and right doings with reward and punishment here and hereafter. Man uses his logic, reasoning and rational is the way. 5 principles of deism are same as Motazilits.

02/13/2025 - 7:51 PMI am not a Deist, but I have noticed that with all the suffering and pain, and even death, do not seem involve the intervention of God. In fact, God seems hidden and makes no appearances anywhere. Why would anyone worship a God who won't even come to your graduation.
@acgaming1932
02/13/2025 - 7:51 PMThe more I think about it, the more deism really starts to make sense! It already made sense when I became one December of last year, but now that I'm really putting it together, now it just makes so much sense.
I don't know if everyone else will agree with me, but I'll say it. Everything around us has a creator, even the universe, and everything evolves from technology to even us, but the only way to know this is if we created it. You can't escape creation and evolution as its an ongoing thing.
@PaulHosey-u3l
02/13/2025 - 7:51 PMI'm agnostic but I tend to think if there is a God it's more likely the kind of God that deists believe. Or at least there's no way to know if the creator cares about you.

@StarsandSandGrains
02/13/2025 - 7:51 PMIt doesn't matter what you are called. What matters is what you do as an individual, whether you are following a certain religion or not. Then Jesus spoke to the multitudes and to His disciples, saying: “The scribes and the Pharisees sit in Moses’ seat. Therefore whatever they tell you to observe, that observe and do, but do not do according to their works; for they say, and do not do. Matthew 22::1-3 (NKJV)
@Normanwhatever-p2b
02/13/2025 - 7:51 PMOk you lost me . …I believe In God but not so much religion . But weather or not he intervene is irrelevant. Intervene in what? Your personal life? I don't think a god would care to intervene in something it create. I'm not done watching…..but it's all bullshit . You can't compare us to the creator of the universe. I'm pretty sure he doesn't walk around on two legs.

@Aham0101
02/13/2025 - 7:51 PMI believe in God. I pray to God. But I don’t subscribe to any religion. I don’t believe in hell. Or a Devil can pull strings. I believe we are here to learn lessons. And we have purpose. I believe God made this universe so that our energy and beliefs attracts back to you and what happens to you. I believe we have spirit guides and in reincarnation, law of attraction, numerology and real astrology. I do not believe this is our first life. A YouTube channel- “Channing Erik” has made it all clear. I believe in law of attraction. I am simply a spiritual person.

02/13/2025 - 7:51 PMThe crucial thing one has to do before he dies or before Christ comes for God's chosen people [Matt 24:30-31] is to turn away from his or her sins and get baptised [immersed Act 8:38-39 ] in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ for the forgiveness of sins [Acts 2:38, mark 16:15-16]
Note No one can enter the kingdom of heaven with out being born of water and the spirit [John 3:5]
And Whoever does not have the holy spirit does not belong to Christ [Romans 8:9]
Qn Do you believe in baptism received before believing?[Mark 16:15-16]
Qn What kind of baptism did you receive?
Qn Did you receive the holy spirit? [Acts 19:1-5]
@Deltic-ce1hk
02/13/2025 - 7:51 PMOne of the reasons I turned to deism was the arrogance and absurdity of religious people claiming that they know the will of the creator.

02/13/2025 - 7:51 PMI believe in God but I don’t believe he has revealed himself to us, religion is man made. My personal belief is that God is both good & evil.. he’s not all good but he isn’t all bad either. If humans are made in God’s image then we are simply reflecting his character because we are capable of both being good & evil. ( my personal belief )
@craigharrison8136
02/13/2025 - 7:51 PMI see myself as an agnostic deist. I have not been convinced about evolution, but I also do not see evidence of a deity interacting with humanity. I do not think a deity must be all good or even still alive. I do not think deity is necessarily one intelligent being or must always have been in existence. In reality I know that I know very little about this earth or the cosmos. I guess I am more an agnostic than a deist.

02/13/2025 - 7:51 PMThis really rings true and sounds like the exact place I find that I am in. Wether a creator or the big bang theory, having that belief without the religion part makes perfect sense. As they have said so many times in videos how the Bible is based on translation and interpretation of things and how they picked and chose what to accept and what to not include based on their beliefs.
@nameless-yd6ko
02/13/2025 - 7:51 PMTime for some definitions;
"Belief'; is a pathologically symptomatic virus-like infection of thought!"
The three main symptoms displayed are;
1) the constant (compulsive) need to 'defend',
2) to 'validate/feed'
3) and to propagate (spread) the 'infection'!
Belief is absolutely unnecessary for Salvation/Enlightenment/Mystic!
'Religion'; a congregation of believers infected with the same or similar strain of belief.
If you believe, as suggested, then Deism is your religion. Don't Deists get together to discuss their Deist beliefs?
Counter to, and conflated with beliefs is;
"Knowledge; is that which is perceived (at the moment)!"
Simple, Universal! 😉

02/13/2025 - 7:51 PMCreator of the entire universe is definitely not concerned with what I eat in my breakfast or what I wear .
@ismail7207
02/13/2025 - 7:51 PMWe all beleieve that there he has to be a creator of the universe. And we can say what attributes this creator does have.
He is one. He is independent of everything (also spacetime). This means he has no boundries and limits. This means he is allmighty. And so on.
It is in our nature, that when we hear this it sounds logical and compelling to us.
I think the islamic description of God is the most proper one.
In reality there are no religions. There is only Truth and falsehood.
There is only believer in the truth and non believer in the truth.
Thats actually what Islam is also teaching.
As long as you believe in God, you are a believer, no matter what Sins you do.
First of all its all about Faith. Creating a bond to our Creator.
And then if we go further we can understand that our Creator sent us down Prophets to teach us our purpose and the rules of this life.
Throughout history the humans misinderstood the messages. They mixed them with their own cultural beliefs. They created rules that dont exist. They misused the truth for their wordly benefits.
But the pure Islam is the message of God.

02/13/2025 - 7:51 PMI have always struggled with religions , always saw them as cunning and complicated tools to create cults and manipulate them , i really hope that God is actually real and none of those religions is true

@Regiments-r9l
02/13/2025 - 7:51 PMI don't believe that there's one particular (thing/being) that single handlely created all that ( was/is/ and to be created but a series of (actions ~reactions) that caused continuous changes but I perceived that human beings must have one source in the form of a personality eg,Jesus.
When we stop believing that A God is the ruler and master of us you will start to feel free and grow.
