I am an AI scientist and have developed my own neural networks that are billions of times less powerful than what Google, Microsoft, OpenAI, etc.. are building. My training models are still able to learn and solve problems. I'm not saying my models are amazing, but they can do processes like categorizing things similar to someone redirecting a phone call to the appropriate department etc.. So just imagine what I just described about my models and multiply it to be billions of times more powerful. OpenAI isn't so open. There is a very good reason they require all their employees to sign non-disclosure agreements. I'm not an expert in the field either, I literally am a factory worker that learned to program and then worked in the field of programming professionally for a few years and read up on machine learning and started building my own neural nets and models. It just requires some very basic linear algebra and a couple calculus methods. Its not arcane. Don't ever think its out of your grasp to experiment. I don't do it because I think I am smarter, but because I think there is a chance that maybe I can think of something that they haven't thought of to make the algorithm more efficient and not require the billions of times more power that they are currently using. Realistically our world will be dramatically changed in this coming decade or so. Its not going to be reflective of previous generations.

Humans anthropomorphize everything from hammers to cars. With the current computer hardware, we can only improve on existing designs. In order for the advancement being discussed to occur, there needs to be a complete overhaul in computer engineering and science. Don't worry about the singularity. Worry about what the people who are trying to convince you that it's a thing intend to do with their machines. They are going to try to blame Ai for their irresponsible use of it to shirk responsibility for their actions.
