Why are we here? Who are we? What is the meaning of life? We revisit an episode where Neil deGrasse Tyson and comic co-host Chuck Nice answer fan-submitted Cosmic Queries on topics that stem from the deepest thoughts, ideas, and feelings we share about our place in the universe.

You’ll learn about the differences between human and chimpanzee DNA and what that could mean for humans in comparison to highly intelligent aliens. Do we have the intelligence of an alien toddler? Is the universe out of reach of the human brain? We debate how long humanity will last and you’ll hear why Neil has confidence humanity will last given the collective nature of our intelligence.

Then, we dive into the big question: what is the meaning of life? Neil shares his thoughts on how he finds meaning in his own life. Discover more about the “vacuum” of space. How far behind or ahead we’d be if we didn’t have moon? Lastly, you’ll learn about higher dimensions and if they’re bleeding into our own universe.

What do you think the study of astronomy would be like if the Earth didn't have a moon?

The meaning of life is not one single answer. We are all unique so I think we should ask ourselves that question. What does your life mean to you?

Go back to what you said about chimps being "1% less" than us, AND add in that the mechanism of our cumulative racial intelligence is the use of language. NOW think about that colony of chimps rescued by Goodall's efforts and possibly learning sign language. Think about it. Really think about it. Uplift anyone??

I highly doubt the universe was created out of a kid who hasent moved out of a mother's basement. More like probably aliens " us " fabric reality to re-explore what was lost so darn long ago. ❤ but the comment is a giggle.

@ Neil de grass Asalam alaikum
I am highly impressed by your knowledge of science a few questions I'd like to ask please let me know whose scripts did Newton use to educate himself can you name any of the scholars? Were any of them Muslim? Secondly how is the theory of evolution true when scriptures tell us about the existence of man and old remains of man are found around the world showing how long ago man has existed it's possible they could have evolved from us.

I wonder if the “universe has complexities that are out reach of the human neuro-synopsis” all the time. I firmly believe reality is subjective. You might not smell something that a dog can smell (basic comparisson)

Meaning of life for me today, same as you described Neil! Leave the world better in some small way, learn something or things every day! Boundaries are temporary and yet to be solved/addressed. Wake up every day with hope and contribute to that happening.

I love me some NDT, but I don't think that's how genetics and intelligence works. Einstein still had to learn Algebra in school, he wasn't born with that ability. Some humans may have an innate ability to grasp musical scales, but they still have to learn them first. I'm saying that I don't believe the ability to know calculus is embedded in genetic code. You still have to study it, and in the case of Newton, you still have to develop it.
