02/18/2025 - 9:59 AMThe filter is civilization itself, being unable to accept the cold harshness of the universe will lead to self destruction, the differences in opinions will lead to self destruction, not being able to accept that past religions were wrong will lead to self destruction. Unless we are all unified and agree that God doesnt exist or that God existed and we are fortunate enough to know he is merciful and will not wipe us out if we become out own gods than we canescape self destruction
In other words, i think a civilization must be able to escape the primal thoughts, actions and behaviors that evolution has instilled within them with wll of society agreeing

02/18/2025 - 9:59 AMWell, we shouldn't assume that filters exist at all. Great filters are speculation, and have not been definitively proven, so you shouldn't promote xenophobia just because it's possible that a great filter is ahead of us.

The early bird theory: life on earth is the first to exist
Self-destruction theory: it’s as the name implies, civilizations eventually destroy themselves
Great filter theory: there is a barrier or “filter” in the development of advanced life. Basically, eventually we will reach that filter, and it will be the end of humanity.
Dark Forest theory: the dark forest is an analogy. Let’s say we are roaming a dark forest and we don’t know who or what is out there, and if it is friendly or hostile. The dark forest being outer space of course

02/18/2025 - 9:59 AM@kurzgesagt, I talked with a friend of mine today & she mentioned that we look so far into the past – while looking for civilizations – that it is very unlikely to notice any other. Our "time radius" just gets too fast too close to the beginning of the universe for them to have a noticeable size… Vice versa they will observe earth as it was many thousand years ago, no chance to get a hint of humanity.
I would really like your thoughts on that/ if it was part of the research. :)😊
